I made the trip down to London in blistering early Summer heat to see Angela & Tom and to get involved in their quirky, stylish wedding in Herne Hill at the Lido Cafe – Brockwell Lido.

The lido itself holds a place in Stenson family history as a landmark of our many trips to London when I was a little lad so it was fantastic to be back…

The art deco styled Lido is still fully in use with swimmers enjoying a late evening dip and a few lengths of the pool whilst Angela, Tom and their guests drank prosecco on the poolside!

I joined Tom in the Prince Regent pub adjacent to the Lido, where he and his groomsmen were welcoming guests prior to the ceremony in the Lido Cafe. Occasionally popping up to the cafe for final preparations between gulps of cider were the order of the afternoon and soon enough the guests were seated awaiting Angela’s arrival from her preparations at her and Tom’s home nearby.

The cafe space is such a perfect venue for a wedding, crisp, white and drinking in the beautiful sunshine and the tints of the pool made it feel positively mediterranean! Quickly following their marriage, everyone spilled out onto the poolside for aperol spritzes and prosecco to celebrate…

A beautiful, fresh meal prepared by the Lido staff (thanks Anke!) was served in the cafe, which had undergone its second transformation of the day for dining and speeches.

Then came the dancing! Angela & Tom’s first dance was to Blur’s Love’s the greatest thing, one of my favourites and a full on mixing session of amazing tunes by Tom’s DJ friend meant that the party was in full swing very soon… having got myself a place to stay nearby I found it rude not to join in and had a thoroughly enjoyable time…

Thanks to all involved – hoping to back in Herne Hill at some point soon!
